FFBF Takes on DC MAY 8-10 For Annual Fly-in
Roughly 100 members of Florida Farm Bureau will travel to Washington, D.C. next week for an annual effort to bring agricultural issues to congressional offices. This year, the Florida Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers leadership team will join other members in issue briefing sessions, Hill visits with their representatives, a joint reception with UF/IFAS and an informational meeting with the Environmental Protection Agency.The three topics of importance this year are agricultural labor reform, NAFTA renegotiations, and the 2018 Farm Bill. The timing of this year’s trip could offer an opportunity for attendees to advance these priorities in a positive direction. Media sources indicate trade negotiators are in the final stages of a revised NAFTA agreement, perhaps within weeks.
Furthermore, recent committee action on the 2018 Farm Bill could instigate a vote on the House floor sometime during the fly-in, which will allow Farm Bureau members to potentially participate in and witness a critical time in federal agricultural policy development.
